About this service
Drywall and plasterboard partitions are practical ways to divide a home, office or commercial space, but daily use, service work and moisture can leave visible damage. Apex Ceilings repairs partition wall cracks, holes, dents, damaged boards and localised water-affected areas. We assess the condition of the surface and the accessible framing before recommending a patch, partial board replacement or larger reinstatement.
A good partition repair must feel stable and sit flat before it is painted. Filling a hole without suitable backing, or covering a recurring crack without checking the joint, can leave a weak repair that soon becomes visible again. Our work includes preparing sound edges, installing support where required, replacing damaged material, treating joints and leaving the area ready for a consistent finish.
Partition damage we repair
Cracks along joints or corners
We examine the crack pattern and nearby movement before renewing joint treatment or replacing the affected section.
Holes from impact or fittings
Small fixing holes and larger impact openings require different backing and finishing methods to restore a stable surface.
Water-damaged plasterboard
Soft, swollen or stained board should be assessed after the moisture source is stopped. Unsound material is removed rather than hidden.
Dents and chipped edges
Busy homes and workplaces can suffer trolley, furniture and door damage. Corners and edges may need new reinforcement as well as surface filling.
Openings after service work
Access for wiring, plumbing or data services can be closed once the other trade has completed and tested its work.
Uneven previous repairs
Raised joints, visible mesh and rough patches can often be cut back and refinished when the underlying wall remains sound.

Choosing the right repair
The extent of the opening, board condition and framing determine the repair. A small fixing hole can often be filled and finished locally. A larger hole needs solid backing and a properly cut replacement piece. If moisture or impact has damaged a broad area, replacing the board section back to stable framing produces a cleaner and more durable result. We explain these options after inspection.
Repairing joints, corners and surfaces
Cracks commonly appear at joints, corners or where different materials meet. The affected finish is opened back to a sound area, loose material is removed and the joint is treated again. Damaged external corners may need reinforcement to restore a straight edge. Each layer is allowed to set and is sanded or prepared as needed before the final finish.
Water damage and internal condition
A partition can look stained on the surface while moisture has also affected insulation, framing or the reverse board. The active water source must first be repaired. We then inspect what is accessible and replace material that has lost its integrity. If insulation is wet or contaminated, its condition should be addressed before the wall is closed.
Matching the surrounding wall
We aim for a flat, paint-ready repair with joints that do not stand proud of the existing wall. Texture and paint colour can change with age, cleaning and sunlight, so repainting to a natural break or across the wall may give a more consistent result than touching up only the patch. The final finishing scope is agreed before work begins.

Understanding the wall construction
Drywall is a complete assembly rather than a thin decorative sheet. Boards are fixed to a frame, joints are reinforced and the cavity may contain insulation or services. A repair therefore needs to consider what lies behind the damaged face. Before cutting, we ask about electrical points, switches, plumbing and previous alterations. Where the opening exposes framing, we check whether it can support a replacement piece or whether additional backing is required. This produces a stable base for the joint and finish.
Repairs around doors and fixtures
Cracks near a door frame, wall-mounted cabinet or heavy fitting can point to repeated impact or inadequate reinforcement. The surface may be repaired, but the loading and fixing arrangement should also be considered so the damage does not simply return. If an item is to be remounted, tell us its size and position before the wall is closed. Suitable reinforcement can then be discussed as part of the scope rather than added after the finished surface has been painted.
Working with concealed services
Partition cavities commonly carry power, data and other services. Their routes may not be visible from the room, so cutting and rebuilding must be planned carefully. Where another contractor created the opening, that trade should finish and test its service before reinstatement. We can coordinate the closing sequence and leave agreed access where future maintenance is expected. The responsible trade remains responsible for its own service, testing and compliance.
Repairing part of a finished wall
A local repair can restore the wall structure and create a smooth surface, but colour and sheen are affected by the age of the existing paint. Even the original paint reference can appear different after years of sunlight and cleaning. We therefore discuss whether the quotation covers the patched area, a full wall plane or a larger room finish. Using a natural boundary such as a corner often gives a cleaner visual result.
When rebuilding is more sensible
A partition with widespread moisture damage, repeated movement, damaged framing or many previous openings may no longer be a good candidate for isolated patches. In that situation, removing a defined section allows the internal condition to be reviewed and the wall to be rebuilt on a sound base. We will explain the evidence for a larger scope and retain unaffected areas where practical. The aim is a dependable wall, not the largest possible repair.
Working with Apex Ceilings
Ceiling and partition work is easiest to control when measurements, materials, interfaces and finishing expectations are agreed before installation. We discuss the intended result in plain terms, review the accessible site conditions and prepare a scope for the actual property. If the work forms part of a larger renovation, we coordinate our sequence with the interior designer, main contractor or other appointed trades. Any change discovered after opening an existing surface is raised before additional work proceeds.
As a direct contractor, Apex Ceilings uses its own ceiling and partition installers and maintains direct communication with the customer. This gives the team control over setting out, installation and finishing while avoiding an additional middleman layer. Our experience covers HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes, offices and other commercial interiors. The method and programme are adjusted to the site instead of treating every room as an identical package.
Workmanship also depends on what happens at the edges: a straight junction with the adjoining wall, correctly planned openings, clean corners and sufficient preparation before paint. We check these visible details as the work progresses. Customers should inspect the completed scope at handover and raise any question while the work area remains accessible. For later drilling, mounting or service access, use suitable fixing points and avoid assuming that the finished board alone can support a heavy load.
To request a quotation, send clear photographs, approximate dimensions, the property type and a short description of the intended work. Plans or marked-up images are helpful when several rooms or new partitions are involved. We may arrange a site visit where levels, concealed conditions, access or coordination cannot be confirmed remotely. The final quotation reflects the measured scope, selected system, finishing requirements and practical site arrangements.
How the work proceeds
- Send photographs and the approximate wall dimensions
- Inspect the wall and accessible internal condition
- Agree the repair and finishing boundaries
- Protect nearby floors, furniture and fittings
- Remove loose material and rebuild the section
- Joint, prepare and check the completed surface
A clear scope helps ceiling and partition work move smoothly. Timing depends on the area, access, site restrictions, drying between finishing stages and coordination with other trades. We confirm the expected programme for the actual project instead of applying one fixed duration to every job.
Planning a quotation
Photos and approximate measurements are useful for an initial discussion, but final scope may require a site assessment. Tell us the property type, affected rooms, intended use, preferred finish and any known service work. For commercial premises, include access hours and building-management requirements. The quotation will describe the agreed work, materials and exclusions so that responsibilities are clear before installation begins.
Apex Ceilings is a direct ceiling and partition contractor with more than ten years of industry experience. Our own installers allow us to coordinate workmanship and respond directly to customers, interior designers and project teams without an additional contracting layer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a large hole in drywall be repaired? | Yes. Large openings normally require the damaged area to be cut back neatly, new backing or framing support, a fitted board section and proper joint treatment. |
Do you repair both home and office partitions? | Yes. We repair plasterboard and drywall partitions in residential and commercial spaces, subject to the wall condition and agreed access arrangements. |
Can you repair a wall after electrical or plumbing access? | Yes, once the service contractor has completed and tested the work and confirmed that the opening can be closed. |
Should wet plasterboard be repaired or replaced? | Soft, swollen or deteriorated board generally needs replacement. The water source should be resolved and the area allowed to dry before closure. |
Is painting included? | The finishing scope is confirmed with the quotation. We prepare the repaired area for a smooth finish and can include painting where agreed. |
